GET TO KNOW ME

Excellence at the Intersection of Science and Law

Growing up in the wilds of northern New England, I was always surrounded by nature. I spent my summers and weekends hiking weathered Appalachian mountains, canoeing lakes and rivers, and skiing every trail I could find. This led to my earning a degree in freshwater ecology and eventually to the study and practice of environmental law.
I use my unique background in environmental science and litigation in order to speak to both science and law. While environmental issues are often seen as a burden in business transactions, my philosophy is that environmental diligence is essential, does not need to stop the deal, and that there is nearly always a creative solution to capturing environmental liability.
My first case as an environmental litigator was representing the state of North Carolina at trial against the Tennessee Valley Authority for air pollution under a unique nuisance theory. A large part of my environmental litigation practice encompassed representing landowners in connection to contaminated property in CERCLA (superfund) litigation across the United States. My practice since evolved into providing environmental counsel on transactions across a wide variety of industries.
My experience includes five years at a global environmental consulting firm, where I conducted environmental due diligence for transactions for industrial and private equity clients. My experience also includes counseling clients on environmental regulatory issues concerning storm water permitting, solid and hazardous waste disposal, air permitting, and reporting contamination.
